TL;DR

Meta ads work for Shopify brands when three things are in place: tracking through Shopify’s Facebook and Instagram channel with the Conversions API turned on, a steady supply of new creative, and a store that converts the traffic you pay for.

Judge results on Shopify revenue, not Ads Manager alone, and scale only the campaigns that stay profitable.

See how we run Meta for Shopify stores: Meta Ads Management.

How do you set up Meta ads tracking on Shopify?

Shopify connects to Meta through the Facebook and Instagram sales channel. In its data sharing settings you choose one of three levels:
  • Standard: the Meta pixel only. Browser ad blockers can stop it from sending data.
  • Enhanced: the pixel plus the Conversions API, which sends purchase events from Shopify’s servers to Meta’s, so ad blockers can’t block them.
  • Maximum: the pixel, the Conversions API and Meta’s latest advertising technology.
For most brands running ads, Enhanced or Maximum gives Meta more purchase data to optimize on. Don’t send the same purchase from two setups, such as the native channel and a separate tracking app, unless they share the same event ID. Otherwise Meta counts purchases twice. MAG Growth builds and maintains pixel, Conversions API and GA4 tracking as part of paid media management.

Which Meta campaigns should a Shopify brand run?

A simple structure works for most stores.
  • An Advantage+ sales campaign (formerly Advantage+ Shopping) for broad prospecting once you have purchase data and proven creative.
  • Catalog and dynamic product ads from your Shopify product feed. They show shoppers the products they viewed.
  • Prospecting tests for new creative angles and offers.
  • Retargeting for product viewers and cart abandoners.
All four are part of how we run Meta. For how to divide budget between them, see our guide to the retargeting vs prospecting budget split.

Why doesn’t Meta’s ROAS match my Shopify revenue?

They measure different things.
  • Attribution. Meta credits a purchase to an ad based on its own attribution window and modeling. Shopify records the actual order.
  • Order value. The purchase value Shopify sends to Meta is the order total, including duties, taxes and discounts.
  • Duplicates. Two tracking setups can double count purchases.
Use Shopify as the revenue source of truth. Watch blended numbers too, such as total revenue against total ad spend (MER), and test incrementality before scaling. Incrementality testing is part of our Meta service.

How does your Shopify store affect Meta ads results?

Meta finds the buyer, and your store closes the sale. When ads stop being profitable, the cause is often on the site.
  • Send Meta traffic to your own store.
One Shopify brand we work with had been sending its Meta ads to Amazon. After we moved that traffic to its Shopify store on March 3, 2026, store conversion rate rose from 0.27% to 1.31%, cost to acquire a customer fell from $190 to $69, and March gross sales passed the whole previous month by March 18.
  • Landing pages matched to the ad. In our health and wellness case study, we built a landing page for each ad angle, and landing page conversion rate rose 67%.
  • Average order value. Upsells raise what each click is worth. In the same case study, post-purchase upsells added 18% to AOV. For Hutch Mountain we added one-click Shopify upsells.
  • Speed and checkout. A slow page or a surprise shipping cost wastes paid clicks. See why your Shopify conversion rate is low.

How does MAG Growth run Meta ads for Shopify brands?

We’re a full-service DTC agency for Shopify and ecommerce brands, so ads, creative, landing pages and email are planned together. We also build and redesign Shopify stores. Example: Hutch Mountain. Meta Ads were inactive. We launched a Meta Ads funnel with UGC video, bundle deals and cart retargeting, and added one-click Shopify upsells, Google Search and Performance Max, and email flows. Meta Ads went from inactive to 11.02x ROAS in June 2026, and gross website revenue rose 141% in 3 months, from $112K in April 2026 to $272K in June 2026. Example: a DTC electrolytes brand. We fixed broken purchase tracking and relaunched Meta on the same website. Store conversion rate went from 0.08% across May 2026 to 2.94% after launch, and cost per customer fell from $1,392 to $166. Because MAG Growth grew out of My Amazon Guy, we also help Amazon brands build a profitable Shopify channel. See our Amazon brand DTC diversification case study. Meta Ads for Shopify Brands FAQs

How much should I spend on Meta ads for my Shopify store? Start with what your margin can support and what lets Meta learn. Meta’s learning phase looks for about 50 optimization events in 7 days per ad set, so higher-priced products need more budget per ad set. There’s no minimum to work with MAG Growth, and we recommend at least $1,500 a month in ad spend. Why are my Meta purchases not matching Shopify orders? The most common reasons are Meta’s attribution model, order value that includes taxes and duties, and duplicate purchase events from two tracking setups. Check Events Manager for duplicates, keep one source per event or share event IDs, and treat Shopify as the source of truth. Do I need the Conversions API if I already have the pixel? Yes, for most stores running ads. The pixel runs in the browser and can be blocked. The Conversions API sends purchase events from Shopify’s servers, so ad blockers don’t stop it. In Shopify, choosing Enhanced or Maximum data sharing turns it on. Is Advantage+ Shopping worth it for a Shopify store? Usually, once your pixel has purchase history and you have creative that already sells. It works best for scaling proven ads with a diversified creative mix, not for testing brand-new concepts cold. Meta now calls it an Advantage+ sales campaign. Are Facebook and Instagram ads worth it for Shopify brands? They can be, if your margins, creative and checkout can support the cost of a new customer. Judge them on profit after ad spend, not reported ROAS. Run them across both apps in one campaign rather than splitting. Why am I getting add to carts but no sales from Meta ads? First confirm tracking with a test order. Then go through your own mobile checkout: surprise shipping costs, slow pages, stock errors and long forms are the usual leaks. Also make sure campaigns optimize for purchases, not add to carts.
